Corey A. Donaldson

Corey A. Donaldson is an associate with Koppel, Patrick, Heybl & Philpott, having joined in February of 2012. Since joining the firm, he has represented patent clients from fields such as optoelectronics, semiconductors, commercial advertising software, manufacturing, hydraulics, and entertainment. He has also worked on trademark issues such as international appellate litigation and infringing product takedown procedures. Corey is admitted to practice in the California state courts, before the federal Central District of California, before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Corey received his Bachelor of Science in Engineering in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Arizona State University in 2008, having attended the university as a National Merit Scholar. He also graduated from the prestigious Barrett Honors College. While studying at Arizona State, he completed his honors thesis Hydraulic Head Losses due to Obstructions in Pressurized Flow under the tutelage of Dr. Larry Mays, a leader in the field and a frequent expert witness at trial, and Dr. Braden Allenby, a professor of both civil engineering and law as well as a former vice president of AT&T. Corey was on the Dean’s List and a member of Chi Epsilon, the national civil engineering honor society.

In the fall of 2008, Corey matriculated to the UCLA School of Law, where he served as a managing editor of the Entertainment Law Review and a vice president of the Federalist Society. Corey also worked as a legal intern at a film distribution studio in Century City while attending law school. He graduated in the spring of 2011.

Prior to joining Koppel, Patrick, Heybl & Philpott, Corey worked for the UCLA Office of Intellectual Property, where he worked on various patent prosecution and licensing projects. In the summer of 2010, he served as a summer associate at the Santa Monica litigation firm Costa, Abrams & Coate, gaining invaluable experience in contract litigation over issues such as copyright ownership and rights of publicity. Corey also worked as a legal intern at First Look Studios in the summer of 2009, where he assisted with trademark maintenance, contract settlement negotiations, and corporate law issues.
